Samer Hawash is a University of New Mexico student who joined the HB team as an Intern. He is currently working towards earning his Bachelor’s in Chemistry with a minor in Entrepreneurship and Small Business Operations. We sat down with Samer to learn more about his experience at HB:
What have you enjoyed most about your internship?
I’ve gained so much knowledge and have enjoyed observing and learning from the hard-working and innovative people at the company. The entire experience has opened my eyes and showed me how multifaceted the industry is and what goes into building projects.
Do you think the experiences you’ve had so far will be used in your future career?
I feel that my experience and skills that I have learned will translate to many different careers. I have developed my organizational skills and learned the importance of time management in a deadline driven environment.
What are you most proud of in life?
As a second generation American, I’ll be the first in my family to graduate from college. My family is from Jerusalem and remembering where I came from and the sacrifices they made is a huge motivator for success.
Also my friends and I founded a social media music app called IndeBeats that helps artist get connected, discovered, and ranked without being overshadowed in the music industry. We ended up winning a competition that allowed us to participate in the European Innovation Academy in Turin, Italy.
Advice for prospective HB Interns?
There are so many different departments, people to learn from, and opportunities, so be sure to explore and branch out of your comfort zone.
What do you do on your free time?
I love technology, creating things, and spending time with my two dogs Simba and Cobo!
