A Leadership Transition Built for the Next 50 Years

A Leadership Transition Built for the Next 50 Years

We’re excited to share a planned leadership transition that will reorganize our executive team and position HB Construction for its next chapter. The transition reflects years of work and a shared belief that succession planning should be continuous, not reactive. As part of this next phase for HB:

  • Zach Gruen, currently Executive Vice President, will become Chief Executive Officer effective January 1, 2027.
  • Jason Harrington, current CEO, will transition to Chairman of the Board effective January 1, 2027. He will continue to be closely involved with HB, partners, and the community on a day-to-day basis.
  • Travis Coker, Chief Operating Officer, will become President and COO effective January 1, 2027.
  • Adam Harrington, Chief Financial Officer, will assume the role of Chief Risk Officer, effective immediately. Adam will continue to directly contribute day-to-day, shifting his role to risk mitigation, compliance, and long-term company sustainability.
  • David Winsor, Vice President of Finance, will step into the role of Chief Financial Officer, effective immediately.

This development gives HB the structure and capacity to think further ahead, creating space for new leaders, new ideas, and clear pathways for growth across the company.

Continuity Matters Here

In 35 years, HB has had only two CEOs. That kind of continuity doesn’t happen by accident. It reflects our commitment to stability, long-term thinking, and developing leaders from within.

Zach’s move into the CEO role is a natural evolution. Since joining HB in 2013, he has worked across project management, preconstruction, and operations, and has served as Executive Vice President since 2018. He’s also been a member of our Board of Directors for five years and has helped shape our collaborative service model and people-first culture. Under his leadership, we’ve expanded our multi-family and industrial work while continuing to strengthen our long-standing presence in education, government, and medical projects. He’s also championed employee-focused initiatives rooted in the belief that investing in people is the surest path to long-term success.

In addition, Travis Coker’s move into the role of President bolsters our ability to deliver consistently and safely for our clients and partners. Travis is a lifelong builder who has advanced HB’s scheduling, field management, and project delivery practices.

Staying Grounded While Looking Forward

As we look ahead, our focus remains the same: protect what makes HB special while continuing to evolve. That means honoring the foundation built by Ken, Jason, Adam, and so many others, while embracing continuous improvement and smart growth.

We’re proud of where we’ve been, energized about where we’re headed, and grateful to have a leadership team ready to carry HB forward for the next 50 years.
