HB Construction is proud to support emergency services and public safety projects again, with the new Bernalillo County Fire Station 36. Designed to serve both first responders and the surrounding community, the 12,000 sq ft facility will provide critical infrastructure and everyday comforts on a 5.5-acre site. The project also includes a new 1,843 sq ft community outreach building—creating space for connection beyond the call of duty.
Inside the station, crews will have access to 12 bunkrooms, four apparatus bays, gear room, a day room, gym, a large kitchen, and supporting spaces—all built to keep firefighters ready and rested.
Bernalillo County selected HB through a best-value procurement process, weighing criteria such as prior fire station experience, proposed project team, and our construction management approach. This will be our second fire station project for Bernalillo County.
Fire stations are unique buildings. They need to be dependable at all hours, but also comfortable enough to live in for days at a time. They bring together high-tech systems and intensive daily wear-and-tear, all within a tightly coordinated footprint. We are proud to join the SMPC Architects team to deliver several key design features at Station 36:
- Drilled pier foundations to stabilize the building on challenging soil.
- Pre-engineered metal structure for the apparatus bay—efficient and durable.
- Mach Alert system to speed up emergency response.
- On-site EV charging for a more sustainable future fleet.
- Rammed earth site walls, combining strength with local character.
- Commercial-grade kitchen with pantry and walk-in freezer.
As with past fire station projects, we’re using in-house Building Information Modeling (BIM) to make sure everything fits into the building footprint. In buildings like this, where every inch matters, diligent safety, quality, and schedule coordination are essential.
