It wasn’t a typical Friday for the staff at Albuquerque’s Oñate Elementary School. Outfitted with hard hats and safety vests, teachers were given a walkthrough of their two-story classroom addition, which is being constructed adjacent to the existing campus.
APS Fine Arts Teacher Susan Wing was excited to get a peek of what the new facility will offer. “Some of our upper grade teachers have been in portables for years and years and the prospect of them being in a place that honors teachers and kids was overwhelming. Some even called ‘dibs’ on rooms even though they had no windows, doors or sheetrock!”
In addition to a physical tour given by HB’s on-site Superintendent Lonny Clark, teachers were given a first-hand demonstration of the BIM process and the modern tools HB uses on site by BIM Coordinator Jason Montoya.
The 30,000 sq ft Oñate Elementary Classroom Addition is scheduled to be completed this Summer.
