HB recently broke ground on a new office building for Bohannan Huston in Las Cruces. Delivered under a Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR) approach, the project was awarded through a competitive selection process. Being chosen by one of New Mexico’s most respected engineering firms—and collaborating with them as both client and design partner—has made this project especially meaningful for HB.
The new two-story, 16,400 sq ft facility is located at 2730 Northrise Drive. It will include open and private office areas, reception, breakroom, restrooms, support rooms, an outdoor deck, and future tenant lease space. Site improvements include concrete paving, sidewalks, asphalt parking, landscaping, and drainage infrastructure.
Preconstruction services were led by VP of Preconstruction of Estimating Steve Hall, who guided the team through budgeting, scheduling, and procurement on a compressed timeline. At 50% construction documents, HB issued a notice to proceed to the steel fabricator—allowing shop drawings to be approved and steel fabrication to begin ahead of anticipated tariff escalation. That proactive step, supported by Marquez Wrought Iron, helped protect both budget and schedule.
HB’s Vice President of Preconstruction and Estimating discussed the need for preconstruction on the project. “This was truly a collaborative effort between Bohannan Huston Inc., Architect’s Studio and their design consultants, HB Construction, and our subcontractor trade partners. With a very tight schedule to break ground and a dedicated emphasis on budget adherence, CMAR was the perfect delivery method. With dedication to a common goal shown by all stakeholders, this project represents the value of CMAR.”
Project Highlights:
- Early steel procurement protected the project from tariff escalation.
- Compressed preconstruction timeline met with full budget and schedule development.
- Strong local subcontractor participation.
- Clear communication and early decision-making built trust across the team.
HB is proud to support Bohannan Huston’s growth in southern New Mexico—and to help deliver a space that reflects their commitment to Las Cruces and the surrounding region.
