HB Construction recently provided an opportunity for our staff to guide HB’s community giving for early 2024. At our grant giveaway event, the company was divided into teams, each tasked with choosing a local nonprofit to support with a $1,000 check. Selections were driven by employee passion for each cause. The following non-profits were chosen to receive grants by our staff:
Casa Esperanza
Casa Esperanza, the oldest hospitality house in New Mexico, provides vital services, assistance, and support to families from all 33 counties and is the only full-service facility serving both adult and pediatric patients. The home provides resident families with access to lodging, food assistance, gas cards, and taxi vouchers, in-house educational programs, professionally facilitated clinical counseling and care management sessions, support groups, volunteer-prepared meals, and organized social activities and educational programs. HB staff emphasized their desire to support Casa Esperanza because everyone needs a helping hand at some point in their lives, but even more so when experiencing a medical situation in their families.
Cuidando Los Niños
The mission of Cuidando Los Niños is to break the cycle of homelessness for children by providing high-quality early childhood education, case management, supportive housing, and parent education. When asked why Cuidando Los Niños was selected to receive a grant, HB staff explained they felt very connected to the organization after having the opportunity to see firsthand the impact donations made for children experiencing homelessness in our community.
Tresco
Tresco’s mission is to provide professional and individualized services, support, and opportunities to people of any age with differing abilities, their families, and the communities they serve. From screenings and early intervention services to providing full and part-time positions, Tresco makes a positive impact on the lives of children with developmental delays and people with disabilities in the community. HB staff voted for Tresco to receive a grant because they believe all individuals should be provided opportunities regardless of their differing abilities.
El Paso Center for Children
The El Paso Center for Children has been serving the community for over 100 years by providing foster care, housing solutions, counseling, emergency shelters, early childhood services, and resource coordination. Their mission is “to empower youth and families to brave adversity and conflict through constantly evolving, innovative programs to co-create a brighter future.” Donating to El Paso Center for Children was important to our teams who serve the southern New Mexico and El Paso communities specifically when considering the impact of providing children an opportunity to shape their lives.
Paws and Stripes
Saving lives, two at a time – Paws and Stripes’ mission is to provide animal-assisted therapy and other mental health services to veterans and their loved ones living with service-connected trauma. Therapy services are provided to New Mexicans all over the state. Our staff selected this non-profit because “veterans make the world go round” as well as the organization’s commitment to rescuing our four-legged friends.
Casa de Peregrinos
Casa de Peregrinos is Southern New Mexico’s largest and most successful food pantry, serving thousands of families each year across 23 separate locations. Their mission is to end hunger by providing mobile pantries and resources that build strong, diverse, and inclusive relationships and partnerships in the community. Our teams’ recent work with Casa de Peregrinos has instilled a commitment to this organization’s mission. Not only were they selected to receive a grant donation, but HB staff members have also volunteered their time at Casa de Peregrinos food banks.
