HB was thrilled to host students, parents, and teachers at Sandia Base Elementary School for a Construction Open House. As part of the event, the HB team led attendees through our job site and invited students and staff to sign permanent support columns. ROMA Architecture joined us in the event, providing interactive VR tours of the future school and a 3D-printed model. As a nod to the design inspiration for the new building and its place at Kirtland Air Force Base, HB and ROMA taught students to make and test a variety of paper airplanes.
This event marked a few milestones in the new elementary school’s progress. With foundations complete and the Phase 1 parking lot ready for turnover, the project is well on its way to becoming the 88,645 sq ft, two-story upgrade from the old building. The new facility will also add a music room, art room, kindergarten wing, and expanded playgrounds and playfields. It will also nearly double the enrollment capacity for students.
