The Bernalillo County Government Center at Alvarado Square is underway as HB Construction begins demolition work at the old Annex building.
The project will transform the previous PNM building in downtown Albuquerque into a modern headquarters for over 900 employees. By consolidating departments into one destination, the County will be able to better serve the community and increase its operational efficiency.
Currently, the first floor of the existing annex building is being demolished. Crews will fill in the basement to expand the footprint of the site. This location will serve as a laydown area while renovations take place. The new county commission chambers and meeting space will eventually be built on site.
HB and Dekker/Perich/Sabatini have used the design phase to collaborate with County staff and leadership. Using Design-Build best practices, the project team will finalize the design in packages in order to begin demolition and infrastructure work early. This will compress the overall time frame for completion.
