Columbia Elementary School has won the Customer Service Award for the 2026 AGC Best Buildings Awards.
LCPS Columbia Elementary School is a 103,250-square-foot, two-level Pre-K through 5th grade campus delivered by HB Construction. The project was delivered under an aggressive schedule so students could begin the school year in their new school on time.

The old Columbia Elementary was closed due to mold, moisture intrusion, flooding, and structural failures. HB approached the replacement with a focus on delivering a resilient envelope, durable materials, and robust drainage systems to prevent the issues that plagued the prior building. HB tightly coordinated civil, structural, and envelope teams to ensure moisture control, proper grading, and long-term protective detailing across all assemblies. Reopening a home campus was urgent for LCPS and the surrounding community after years of displacement. HB divided the building into phased work zones, used concurrent trade sequencing, and maintained daily schedule controls. This approach allowed HB to meet the compressed timeline without compromising quality.
The Customer Service Award highlights HB Construction’s dedication to bringing Columbia Elementary’s vision to life. A recommendation from the owner praised HB’s strong focus on safety, site organization, and quality craftsmanship. Throughout the project, HB also made a point to recognize the contributions of its employees, subcontractors, and district staff fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
As a project that fulfilled a critical need for the community, HB’s commitment and attention to detail ensured its overall success.
